Why Oregon CE has its own pattern

Oregon clinicians sit under separate boards depending on credential. The Board of Licensed Social Workers (BLSW) sets the rules for LCSW renewals under OAR 877-025-0011: 40 hours every two years, with 6 hours in ethics and 6 hours in cultural competency. BLSW also allows up to 10 unused hours to roll forward into the next cycle. The Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT) handles LPC and LMFT licensees with a different category mix and does not extend the same carryover.

On top of the board CE rule, ORS 676.866 layers in 2 hours of suicide risk assessment training every two years for clinical social workers. The Oregon Health Authority administers that requirement separately, and it is easy to miss because it is not in the BLSW handbook. A generic CE tracker has no way to flag the ORS 676.866 hour as its own subcategory; we do, because the rule is encoded in the data model.

The same logic applies for OBLPCT-regulated counselors and MFTs. We name the rule, cite the statute, and track the right subcategories per credential. If you hold an LCSW and an LPC in Oregon, you get two distinct dashboards inside one account, each with the right rules for that board.

Questions Oregon clinicians ask

What CE does Oregon require for an LCSW?

The Board of Licensed Social Workers (BLSW) requires 40 hours of continuing education every two years, with at least 6 hours in ethics and 6 hours in cultural competency under OAR 877-025-0011. ORS 676.866 adds 2 hours of suicide risk assessment training on the same biennial clock.

Is the suicide risk assessment hour counted within the 40, or on top?

On top, in the strict sense. ORS 676.866 is administered by the Oregon Health Authority and is separate from the BLSW 40-hour CE rule. A qualifying course can often satisfy both; the dashboard tracks the suicide-risk subcategory independently so you can see at a glance whether you have logged your 2 hours.

What about Oregon LPC and LMFT licensees?

The Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT) regulates LPCs and LMFTs under OAR 833-080-0011: 40 hours every two years, the same renewal cadence as BLSW, but with a different category mix and no carryover. We carry primary-source-verified profiles for both. Each shows up as its own dashboard inside one Still Licensed account so a clinician with both an LPC and an LMFT (or an LCSW + an LPC) sees independent renewal counts.

Does Oregon use CE Broker?

No. Oregon is not a CE Broker mandated state for LCSW, LPC, or LMFT renewals. You log CE directly with the relevant Oregon board through the Thentia Cloud portal at renewal time. Still Licensed gives you the planning view in between.

Why use Still Licensed instead of a generic national tracker?

Generic trackers list "ethics" or "cultural competency" as labels but do not encode Oregon-specific rules. Our Oregon profiles cite OAR 877-025-0011, ORS 676.866, and the OBLPCT regulations directly. The dashboard counts hours toward the right Oregon subcategories, not a one-size-fits-all bucket.
