Oregon LCSW CEU Requirements (2026–2027)
If you hold an active LCSW in Oregon, the Board of Licensed Social Workers requires 40 CE hours every two years. Here is the verified breakdown, straight from the board.

Renewal timing
Oregon renewal is biennial and falls on the last day of the licensee's birth month. The first renewal after initial licensure has no CE requirement, and CE hours earned before that first renewal cannot be counted toward later cycles.
Carryover
Oregon is one of the few states that allows carryover. You can roll up to 10 unused hours into the next 2-year cycle. Ethics and cultural competency hours do not carry over separately, they count against the 10-hour cap on carryover like any other elective credit.
Accepted CE formats
- Conferences, seminars, and workshops (in-person, online, or webcast) from board-recognized credentialing bodies
- Self-approved training events (written application required)
- Agency in-service and employer-sponsored programs, capped at 50% of required hours
- University or college courses in social work
- Approved training videos and audio recordings
- Study groups (5–10 mental health professionals, max 2 hours per meeting)
- Teaching CE (course development and presentation)
- College-level language courses with a passing grade, up to 25% of total credits
Documentation
Keep completion certificates and course records for at least 24 months. The board conducts random audits, and the burden of proof is on the licensee. Storing these in a single place (a folder on your computer, a binder, or a tool like Still Licensed) will save you from panic-scrolling through old email attachments at renewal time.
